Alation Launches AIOS™ Expansion with Six Products that Accelerate AI Transformation
AI Governance, Ontologies, Intelligent Feeds, Console, Governed Collections, and Semantic Model Mastering extend AIOS coverage of governed data, context, and AI agents across the enterprise
CHICAGO, Sept. 17, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alation Inc., the creators of the intelligence operating system, today at revAlation, its annual user conference, announced six AIOS components extending the intelligence operating system’s ability to govern data, context, and agents across any enterprise system or data application.
According to Grant Thornton's 2026 AI Impact Survey of 950 C-suite leaders, 78 percent lack strong confidence they could pass an independent AI governance audit within 90 days. The challenge is not model quality. The context and governed data that models depend on often do not exist: no governed definitions, no documented lineage, no trusted source of what data means alongside low-quality data. Without the right data and context, agents effectively guess, analyzing your data and producing answers. For a finance team closing the books or a compliance function facing an audit, an answer built on inferred context and bad data is the most expensive kind of failure.
Vendors approaching AI from the compute or model layer treat governance as something to bolt on afterward. Equally, context can’t be built in a vacuum; you have to design the application, whether it’s a dashboard or an automation, to constantly perfect context.
Alation built governance into the way people discover and use data. Governing enterprise data, from definitions and lineage to quality and access, is the company’s original discipline, and AIOS makes that discipline the foundation agents run on. The six products, AI Governance, Ontologies, Intelligent Feeds, Console, Governed Collections, and Semantic Model Mastering build upon that foundation: expanding governance, enriching context, and extending reach across the enterprise stack.
“Getting AI right isn’t a capabilities problem; it’s a systems problem. You’re never one and done with agentic AI. You have to constantly observe and monitor agentic applications and learn from errors, feedback, and new knowledge,” said Satyen Sangani, CEO and co-founder, Alation. “Systemic learning is the entire game, and that learning will come from humans and agents in the loops. These new products empower organizations to gather context faster and more accurately, ensuring compliance and safety along the way.”
AI Governance expands to add agent lineage tracing, enabling visibility into every AI agent's regulatory risk, all the way through the live data it consumes. There are now six native connectors bringing every major AI agent and model into a cross-platform registry: Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Databricks MLflow, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, and Snowflake Cortex. It is the first cross-platform registry to continuously connect an agent's compliance posture to the live quality and policy status of its underlying data.
Console is a single intelligent interface that routes natural language requests to the right AIOS capability without requiring users to know where to go. With AIOS, your intelligent applications operate like a single integrated system – the same is now true of the operating system that manages them.
Governed Collections makes unstructured data from outside the catalog, including compliance policies, standard operating procedures, and business glossaries, available to agents as governed, up-to-date context. Documents from Confluence, SharePoint, and S3 become governed catalog objects and agents consume them by reference. When a source document changes, the agent reads the current version automatically.
Intelligent Feeds deliver governed, interactive intelligence, combining metrics, visualizations, narrative, and chat to the teams responsible for recurring operating decisions. Data intelligence stops being a destination users visit and becomes something that finds them and enables them to dig as far as their curiosity takes them.
Ontologies are a new enterprise knowledge object that guide agents through business processes with precision. Agents are only as reliable as their understanding of the business. Where an agent would otherwise infer the rules and constraints of a process, ontologies make them explicit: a governed, machine-readable model of how the business works, mapped to the catalog and reviewed by subject-matter experts. Built on open standards, ontologies can be exported and consumed by any agent runtime.
Semantic Model Mastering ingests semantic models from Databricks and Snowflake, enriches and governs them in Alation, and syncs the enriched definitions back to both platforms automatically. A term like 'active customer' resolves to one definition, and every downstream agent runs on it. Every downstream consumer, including the agents that run on them, operates on the highest quality, most current definition without anyone re-entering Alation.
“Most enterprises cannot answer a basic question: which agents touched which data, under what policy, and with what quality. That is why AI programs stall. My research keeps landing on the same root cause: the business meaning behind the data was never made explicit, so agents infer it and get it confidently wrong,” said Sanjeev Mohan, Founder, SanjMo. “Ontologies and governed semantic models fix that at the source. Connecting an agent's compliance posture to the live state of its data moves governance from documentation to runtime. Alation's AIOS expansion pushes on both.”
